Object states are used in many ways in eZ Publish, from workflows to menu management to controlling SEO tags. In eZ Publish 5, object state information is not available by default as one of the intrinsic attributes of a content or location object. In this post, we will show you how to access object states in PHP (usually in your custom controllers) or in Twig templates.

Continuing with the migration of a site from eZ Publish 4 to eZ Publish 5, here's a sample of how you can use legacy code from a Symfony controller and use Twig templates to render the response.

In this tutorial I show how to add multilanguage support in eZ publish 5 / symfony 2 WITH twig helpers instead of using the outdated method showed in http://share.ez.no/blogs/olivier-portier/multi-language-support-in-ez-publish-5.1-without-twig-helpers-from-5.2

Introduction to Twig global variables and to by pass multi-language and multi-siteaccess issue in eZ 5.1.

We just launch a new website in eZ Publish version 5.1 (Community Project 2013-06). This project is based on native eZ Publish features:

  • multi-language (french, english, and more in the future),
  • multi-sites (one siteaccess per language).

As I'm currently upgrading the french Planet eZ Publish to the last eZ Publish 5, I'm also reviewing some of the bugs or the missing features I encountered when setting up the eZ Publish 5 version back in december 2012. One of those issues was about the differences between the pages generated by a legacy module (ezinfo/about, planet/search, ...) and the rest of the website. This was due to the fact that in 5.0, it was not possible to use a Twig pagelayout with a legacy module so the result of those modules were still injected in the good old pagealyout.tpl. Starting from the versions 2013.4 and 5.1, it's possible to use a Twig pagelayout on the legacy modules. That's a neat feature for a smooth and progressive upgrade to the new stack, but there are many interesting facts about it.

As announced on Twitter and Google+ a week ago, the Planet eZ Publish.fr (the french version of Planet eZ Publish.org) is now powered by eZ Publish 5 (actually, it's build from git clones from 2012-12-04 so it's a version somewhere between 5.0 and the future 2012.11/2012.12 versions).

After some weeks of extensive development at eZ engineering, it’s time to summarize a bit what has been done.

The "Why" and how BC will not kill you

Last week we announced the new synergy between the upcoming eZ Publish 5 and Symfony 2. A lot of technical questions naturally popped out and eZ Engineering will try to address answers to most of them in a series of blog posts, this one being dedicated to our choice and backwards compatibility.
