A key component of a content management system or web application is the handling of JavaScript and CSS files, specifically around loading, combining, and minifying them. Loading fewer files and a smaller amount of data in each file leads to both server-side and client-side performance improvements. In eZ Publish 4 / legacy, this was handled nicely with an extension called ezjscore. Now in the eZ Publish 5 new stack, we have a Symfony tool called Assetic. In this post we'll introduce how Assetic works in eZ Publish 5.0 through 5.4.

While preparing this years eZ Publish Summer Camp and PHP Summer Camp we wanted to somehow capture the value that was created and share it later. In short, to extend the learning experience after the camp is over. So we organised video and audio recordings of all 3 tracks and (almost) all workshops.

Object states are used in many ways in eZ Publish, from workflows to menu management to controlling SEO tags. In eZ Publish 5, object state information is not available by default as one of the intrinsic attributes of a content or location object. In this post, we will show you how to access object states in PHP (usually in your custom controllers) or in Twig templates.

Whenever you edit content in the eZ Publish Administration Interface, eZ Publish stores a new version. eZ Publish has a built-in feature to limit the number of previous versions it stores. However, as of the time of this posting, the eZ Publish 5.x public API to create and update content does not respect the version history limit (which, by default, stores 10 previous versions). We've written a quick function that restores this feature.

Fetching content in eZ Publish 4 (the "legacy" stack) and eZ Publish 5 (the "new" stack) follow many of the same principles, which is not surprising since the data layer is the same for both versions. You typically have a parent node or location and a set of filters. User permissions -- especially bypassing those permissions -- is often a consideration. In this post we'll explore how to fetch content in the legacy and new stack (as of eZ Publish 5.2).

With coming of the eZ Publish CMS version 5 and introduction of the Public API a new naming convention was established, the version 4 technology was called legacy stack and the new technology, with the Public API as the cornerstone, was called the new stack. Recently by using this new stuff more and more I realised that this naming is a bit misleading.

Timon Schroeter just published a great blog post about his usage of eZ Publish 5, and more precisely how eZ Publish comes in very handy for Symfony2 developers with our configResolver. Read his blog post at the following URL: http://www.php-schulung.de/2014/ez-publish-config-resolver/

Since few days ago, sillonbol.com site is powered by eZ Publish 5. In fact, it’s powered with clones of the master versions from the eZ Publish Community Edition and the eZ Publish Legacy versions and its core is updated regularly to get new functionalities accepted by the eZ crew.

The multisite feature in eZ publish allow us to create several web sites using just one eZpublish installation, it is possible by using the siteaccess feature, which is basically a set of settings that tells eZ publish how to behave according to URL that is being accessed. In this tutorial I will show how to customize layout and bundles for a certain siteaccess.
