Some eZ Platform devs are old ez legacy devs. Some of them (like me) started building eZ websites on 3.x releases. The thing is they have bad old habits and they tend to keep building ezPlatform projects on a legacy way of doing things. But that's a bad path. After taking some time on a eZ 5.x and eZ Enterprise projects here is what I found out.

After another successful summer camp in 2017, we decided to stay in a charming town of Rovinj once again, with Lone Hotel being our venue. We are not changing the dates of the conference either – from August 29 to September 1, 2018, we will welcome you once again to our conference.

If content is key to your business, you’ll want to choose a system that makes dealing with lots of content -- and leveraging it throughout your site and across other channels -- easy and intuitive.

If you landed here because you’re researching a content management system, then you already know there are literally thousands to choose from. Some you’re probably familiar with, but most you likely haven’t heard of. Narrowing down a shortlist can be overwhelming.

But if content is key to your business, you’ll want to choose a system that makes dealing with lots of content -- and leveraging it throughout your site and across other channels -- easy and intuitive.

We’ve worked with traditional publishers in the book and magazine industries, and with companies that publish content as part of their marketing and engagement strategies. We’ve also worked with some of the biggest and most popular content management systems around. Our top recommendation for content-based sites is eZ Publish / eZ Platform.

Originally launched in 1999, eZ is a robust enterprise CMS with a flexible suite of tools for businesses with publishing as a key activity. Its users include traditional publishers like the Financial Times, The Economist, and The Christian Science Monitor; large public organizations like Harvard University and the American Museum of Natural History; and big brands like Kitchen Aid and John Deere. All have one thing in common: they publish a lot of content that needs to work hard for their business -- whether for marketing, sales, reader engagement, or any number of multi-channel applications.

We at Contextual Code were keen to see eZ Platform in action, and decided that updating our own website / blog would provide a perfect opportunity to get deeper into it. During testing of the new admin interface we discovered that a completely new WYSIWYG editor is now being used, but there is currently no easy way to develop eZ XML custom tags. That was the main reason why we decided to spend some time investigating eZ Platform’s rich text field type, looking to find possible ways of extending it.

Please checkout the full post at our blog.

You might have missed this great crowdfunding opportunity, Netgen, through the voice of their very own Ivo Lukac (@ilukac), has launched a crowdfunding initiative to enable the development of the Tags bundle so that it supports eZ Platform UI. First of, I think it’s really great to see this kind of initiative in our ecosystem, and we should all share this news and act quickly! We’re almost out of time, so read on to see why you should click now to support eZ Tags.

Summer is over, v1.5 releases and even v1.5.1 releases are out, eZ Conference is quickly approaching, and one of the talks there brings up topics around v2.x and beyond. A topic we very much would like to get some feedback on this fall, especially during the conference, and also a topic we would like to involve the community and partners actively in next year.

The programme for the eZ track is almost finished with 2 short slots still to be confirmed. The Symfony and PHP tracks are 100% done. There will be total of 54 hours of workshops, mostly hands-on with focus on eZ Platform, Symfony and PHP

Yesterday I had a great chat with Roland Benedetti, eZ Systems CPMO and André Rømcke, eZ Systems lead engineer, about  the latest eZ Publish version 5.4 and what is coming next. We had no network issues this time, but some problems with focus at the beginning. It was Angry Che's fault ;)

As you may have gathered, we've been doing quite a lot of internal work at eZ over the last year. Aleksander came back as CEO and we have been rethinking and strengthening  eZ’s Organisation and Product Strategy (which is where most of my involvement came in), and also how we articulate our business model on top of an open-source project.
